  "Our Senses Exercised"

God has given us five senses that are used for our habitation of living. They are touch, taste, smell, see, and hear. We are created in his image and his glory is shown through his creation. Hebrews 5:14 speaks about exercising our senses. It says; " .... even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. " Our senses are of great importance. It is interesting to know that they are to be exercised to discern both good and evil.
In the bible Jesus teaches us the use of two of these senses. It is written in the book of John. It says; " Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise John 5:19." The words that are underlined, "but what he seeth the Father do" are important concerning our walk with the Lord. When we pray to God with sincerity, we are looking for God to answer those prayers. It may be a time of waiting. He knows our hearts desire. He knows our situation. He knows us. The thing is that we can't be presumptuous and we can't be lackadaisical in waiting with the Lord. Its being patient enough to see God show up first, not us. Thats what Jesus meant when he said; "The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do." God will show up physically, but our spirit will witness if it is him. Waiting for God to appear gives us the wisdom to be sensitive to exercise our senses. Thats the creativity he wants us to manifest in us. Since we are created in his image and Jesus is our example, we are to be like him. That is a work in progress, working out our imperfections and manifesting the holy spirit in us to be more like Jesus Christ the Son of God.
"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." (Gen.1:27)

"For we which live are always delivered unto death for Jesus sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh." (1 John 3:2 )

Exercising our senses is being more like Jesus by dying to ourself of our old nature. It will increase our spiritual awareness  which is needed being with the Lord. We can see God in many aspects of life. But to be sensative enough to see him in all of creation that is around us, gives us the awareness of who he really is. God gives life to everything. He is always creating and moving all around us. But Jesus said he did nothing of himself until he seen his Father move. The spiritual sight of seeing God act first can confirm our next step with him.

John 5:24 says, " Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death to life."

The use of our other senses is hearing. We need to hear the Lord. Its hearing the Lord within us and the use of the holy spirit working in you. Jesus said, "He that heareth my word." But we also need to believe. Believing has a big part in our relationship with God. Its a substantial part of moving forward with God. But hearing from God takes time to learn. It needs to be excercised so we can tune in more to him.  It's hearing God, how you are trained to hear him. Hearing from God is a part of life with God. Its a part of our everlasting life with him. We pass from death to life.                  John 8:51 says, " Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death." This is hearing God, hearing, hearing his word. Hearing him speak to you. The use of these senses, hearing and seeing work together as a great asset in our relationship with God.                                                                                                                                                                                                                       " Verily, verily, I say unto you, The houring is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live." (John 5:25)                                                                                                                                                                                    Here again in this scripture Jesus is saying, " the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God. " This could simply mean the dead that are in their graves will hear the voice of God. But I believe it goes beyond that. The intrepretation of that scripture has a deeper meaning. Colossians 2:13 explains it very well. " And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses."          The dead meaning; is being dead in your sins dead to our old ways. Our sins get in the way of hearing and seeing God act in a special moment in our lives. They are the unbelieving part of us that separates us from God. You see, if we are created in his image and Jesus is our example. Then what image do you suppose we are to be. How about the image of his son. That relationship gives us the eyes to see and the ears to hear the Lord. It will bring us out of  darkness and into the light. Jesus said, "and they that hear shall live John 5:25."  Jesus also mentions, "the hour is coming." Twice this is stated to emphasize an event that will take place of some importance. The time coming when God's voice will be heard. We do hear his voice but possibly more profound than ever. I believe if we are to be more like Jesus and we are able to obtain it. Then we also will be an expression of the Father.                                                                                                                                                                           Jesus said, " I can of my ownself do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgement is just;  because I seek not my own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me." (John 5:30)                                                                                                                                             The life living significance of that scripture is this. As we see and as we hear God with our physical and spiritual senses, decisions are made. Decisions that are the will of the Father. Its not only a blessing unto God and ourselves, but it could also effect the people that are in our lives. Let God direct our foot steps. "May the Lord bless you richly."
